  • by

The Tampa Bay Rays moved within five games of the New York Yankees atop the American League East standings on Friday night, recording a dominant 9-0 win. Rays right fielder Manuel Margot went 3 of 5 and drove in two runs, extending his hitting streak to five games. He is facing New York starter Clarke Schmidt, who is 5-3 with a 2.89 ERA, on Saturday. Should you back Margot in your MLB DFS lineups?

One Rays player who looks like a strong pick in the MLB DFS player pool is starting pitcher Corey Kluber. He is 5-3 with a 2.27 ERA in 11 career starts against the Yankees, allowing two runs across six strong innings when he faced them last month. Before making any MLB DFS picks for Saturday, be sure to check out the MLB DFS advice, strategy and projections from SportsLine daily Fantasy expert Mike McClure.

McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Saturday, September 3, 2022

St. Louis first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is one of McClure’s top picks on Saturday and he is listed at $6,500 on DraftKings and $4,600 on FanDuel. Goldschmidt has been held hitless in three of his last four games, but he is poised to break out of that mini slump on Saturday. He lit up the Cubs for three hits and three runs in one of his recent games against them, hitting a pair of home runs in that Aug. 25 meetings.

Goldschmidt is a heavy favorite to win the National League MVP this season, batting at a .330 clip with 33 homers and 105 RBI. He is a big reason why the Cardinals have gone 26-8 since July 26, taking control of the NL Central. Chicago pitcher Drew Smyly had a strong month of August, but his one loss came against the Cardinals.

McClure’s MLB DFS strategy also includes stacking Goldschmidt with St. Louis third baseman Nolan Arenado ($6,200 on FanDuel, $4,400 on DraftKings). Arenado has combined with Goldschmidt for 61 home runs this season, driving the Cardinals offense. The star third baseman is his teammate’s only real competition to win the NL MVP.

Arenado has been in great form of late, notching at least two hits in three of his last six games. He went 4 of 4 against Atlanta on Aug. 27 before adding a pair of two-hit games in the three-game series with Cincinnati earlier this week. Arenado went 3 of 4 and homered in a game against the Cubs on Aug. 23, so he will be confident heading into this game.
