MLB analyst explains Yankees’ Aaron Judge’s home run drought

Is he going to do it?

Aaron Judge’s hunt for his 61st home run to tie Roger Maris’ Yankees and American League single-season record has hit a plateau. Judge is one shy and hasn’t hit a homer since Sept. 20.

Fans are getting a little panicky.

Harold Reynolds broke down why the seven day homerless streak could be happening on MLB Network:

“He’s starting to pull everything. Centerfield has now become his right field, which isn’t normal for Aaron Judge, because we’re used to seeing him shoot that ball to the right. So basically, he’s eliminated half the field. He’s trying to pull everything, and I think he got a little pull-happy over the weekend facing the Red Sox. And then I saw [his single on Monday], that was the first ball I’ve seen him hit to right field in about two weeks. He drills that ball to right, [Tuesday] we saw him line-out to third, but I think he’s getting there. Why? He’s now covering the whole field.”

Judge isn’t exactly getting many great opportunities to crush a historical home run anyway. In Tuesday’s AL East clinching win over the Toronto Blue Jays, Judge was 0-for-1 with four walks. Four. The Blue Jays pitchers were extremely careful with him, and all five plate appearances went to full count. In fact, Judge has been walked 12 times since he hit his 60th home run.

The Yankees will finish their series against the Blue Jays on Wednesday, but there is a chance Aaron Boone could decide to sit Judge, who has played 47 straight games since Aug. 6. The Yankees will host the Baltimore Orioles for their last home series starting Friday.
