Milwaukee Bucks’ Jrue Holiday named Teammate of the Year for the second straight season

Milwaukee Bucks point guard Jrue Holiday won the Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award for the second straight season and for the third time in four years.

The award is voted on by NBA players and recognizes a player “deemed the best teammate based on selfless play, on- and off-court leadership as a mentor and role model to other NBA players and commitment and dedication to the team.”

Jrue Holiday added the Teammate of the Year award to his honors as an all-star and all-defensive team player this season.

The award was created in 2012-13 and Holiday is the only player to have won it multiple times.

In the balloting by about 400 of his peers, Holiday received 1,359 points along with 57 first-place votes.

Brooklyn’s Mikal Bridges finished in second place with 1,190 total points. Golden State’s Stephen Curry finished third with 1,117 points. Miami’s Udonis Haslam had 52 first-place votes and finished fifth.

To go with his previous Teammate of the Year awards, Holiday also won the 2020-21 Sportsmanship Award.

Holiday was also an all-star and all-defensive first-team selection for his play on the court this season.

The Twyman-Stokes award is named for Jack Twyman and Maurice Stokes, who were teammates for the Rochester/Cincinnati Royals from 1955-58. Stokes suffered a brain injury after falling on the court and was paralyzed shortly thereafter. Twyman cared and supported Stokes afterwards and eventually became his legal guardian.
