Republic of Ireland striker Michael Obafemi has completed a loan move to Championship table-toppers Burnley from Swansea City, with an option to make the move permanent in the summer.
The 22-year-old has scored 15 goals in 52 appearances for the Swans since joining from Southampton 18 months ago, and should boost Burnley’s promotion charge as Vincent Kompany’s side sit top of the Sky Bet Championship, five points clear of Sheffield United at the top of the league – and 18 points ahead of third-placed Watford.
Burnley have been linked with Obafemi for several months and finally have their man – announcing the move a day after Kompany all but confirmed it was done in his post-match press conference following their goalless draw at Ipswich in the FA Cup.
Obafemi becomes Burnley’s fourth signing of the January window following the arrivals of Ameen Al-Dakhil, Hjalmar Ekdal and fellow forward Lyle Foster.

And the striker now joins compatriot Josh Cullen at Turf Moor, who has proved a crucial presence in the heart of Burnley midfield.
“I’m glad to be here. It’s been a busy few days, but I’m just glad that it’s finally done now,” said Obafemi.
“When I first heard of Burnley’s interest in the summer I was adamant to come here, obviously it didn’t happen then but now I’m here and I just can’t wait to play in the Claret and Blue.”
Earlier this month Swans boss Russell Martin confirmed the club had rejected two bids for Obafemi. Burnley have been chasing the attacker since the summer, with Obafemi very keen to make the move.
His wish has now been granted, and he’ll aim to force his way into a strong side as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile former St Pat’s defender Luke McNally has left Burnley for Coventry City on loan.
McNally, 23, arrived from Oxford United in the summer and has since made four appearances for Kompany’s team.
He’ll spend the remainder of the campaign with Mark Robins’ Sky Blues.
