Who is starting for the Mets?
Jose Quintana makes his season debut for the Mets as they look to secure the series sweep.
The left-hander has been on the Injured List since dealing with a stress fracture in his rib which required surgery late in spring training. He has been working his way back and finally appears ready to roll.
Quintana made five minor league rehab appearances and allowed 10 runs (eight earned) over 15.2 innings of work. He was able to stretch out to 87 pitches in his final sim game before being activated.
Last season with the Pirates and Cardinals, the 34-year-old posted a career-low 2.93 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 137 strikeouts over 32 outings. He specializes in keeping the ball in the park, allowing a league-leading 0.4 HR/9.
Who is starting for the White Sox?
On the other side of things, the Mets will have to deal with a hard throwing right-hander Michael Kopech.
After putting together a very solid 2022 campaign, he has been having a bit of an up and down year for the Sox. Kopech recently missed time due to right shoulder inflammation.
In his return from the injured list, his first start since June 27, he was chased in the first inning. The 27-year-old recorded just two outs and allowed four runs on just one hit while walking four.
Free passes have been an issue for Kopech all season long, as he leads the league with a total of 53. Through 17 starts, he’s also recorded a 4.47 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with 97 strikeouts.
Upcoming schedule
The Mets ship up to Boston for a three-game set against the Red Sox at Fenway Park starting on Friday at 7:10 pm on SNY.
Kodai Senga (7-5, 3.20 ERA) takes the ball for New York against a veteran left-hander James Paxton (5-2, 3.51 ERA).
