Mets Notes

– The Mets (36-46) fell below .500 for the first time this season with a 5-4 loss to the Giants (46-36) in the opener. New York led 4-2 in the eighth inning, until David Robertson (allowed a decisive three-run homer, and is 6-19 over its past 25 games. It went 7-19 in June, despite getting outscored by just 11 runs total through those 26 games.

Justin Verlander has pitched to a 1.08 ERA and 0.84 WHIP in his past four home starts. He has held opposing batters to a .180 average and .512 OPS.

Jeff McNeilwho notched a pair of RBI doubles in Friday’s opener, raised his slash line against the Giants to .359/.400/.538 through 32 career games.

He allowed five hits while striking out five, walking two and hitting one batter in five scoreless innings (59 strikes on 100 pitches) of this past Monday’s 2-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Anthony DeSclafaniwho is 4-7 with a 4.28 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 16 starts this season.

He allowed two runs on five hits in six innings while striking out three, walking none and throwing 78 pitches (50 strikes) during the Giants’ 5-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks this past Sunday.
