Mets outfielder Mark Canha participated in the organization’s Thanksgiving turkey giveaway on Friday, and gave his thoughts on a few of the team’s big free agents this offseason.

When asked about the Mets’ top free agent, Jacob deGromCanha said “it would mean a lot” for the two-time Cy Young Award winner to re-sign with the Mets and continue his legacy in New York.

“I mean it would be great,” Canha said. “You’d love to have a guy like Jake on the rotation. I have no idea what’s going to happen with that, I honestly have no idea but I hope we get him, it would mean a lot.”

Canha was also asked how important it would be for fellow OF Brandon Nimmo to stay in New York long-term. The Mets are interested in bringing Nimmo back next season, but he has already started to meet personally with other interested teams.

“I mean he’s a phenomenal talent,” Canha said. “I really appreciate him as a teammate and as a person. He’s a great center fielder, great leadoff guy. I wish the best for him, but selfishly I would like him back.”

Canha then touched on the team re-signing star closer Edwin Diazand said that he’s always checking in on the offseason rumors and reports surrounding the club.

“Yeah that was great to see,” Canha said. “It’s always a very exciting time of year this year with the GM Meetings, the owner’s meetings, and then the Winter Meetings coming up. Yeah, I’d be lying if I said I don’t pay close attention to it. You’ re always checking, who are we gonna, what’s gonna happen today. It’s a very exciting time.”
