The Mets agreed to a deal with a right-handed reliever David Robertson to bolster their bullpen for the 2023 season.
According to SNY’s Andy Martino, Robertson, 37, and the Mets agreed to a deal Thursday night. The deal is for a one-year, $10 million contract, per multiple reports.
With the Mets re-signing Brandon Nimmo earlier in the evening, the Mets are done with their deals for Thursday night, per Martino.
In 58 games last season, Robertson pitched to a 4-3 record and a 2.40 ERA with 20 saves between the Chicago Cubs and the Philadelphia Phillies.
New York and Chicago had talked about a potential trade for Robertson at the trade deadline this past season, but instead the Cubs dealt him to the Phillies. Robertson went on to pitch in eight postseason games for the Phillies en route to a World Series appearance, as he allowed just one run on six hits with 11 strikeouts and five walks
The Mets re-signed star closer Edwin Diaz on Nov. 6 to a five-year, $102 million deal, as Robertson will likely fill the setup man role before Diaz comes in to pitch the ninth.
The team also agreed to a deal with a three-time Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander on Dec. 5 and agreed to a deal with LHP Jose Quintana on Dec. 7 to bolster the starting rotation.
