Mercedes-Benz adds tech, power, and 45 S model to 2024 CLA

The refreshed CLA will roll into Canada later this year with a new look, updated technology, and added powertrain options, including in the turbocharged CLA 45 S.

Starting outside and up front, Mercedes has edited the front bumper and fascia, and inserted a new grille with a star pattern. LEDs have been given modernized graphics as well, as have the taillights above the new rear diffuser. The 2024 CLA is also available with three new wheel designs ranging up to 19 inches in size, and can now be finished in Starling Blue or the CLA-exclusive Hyper Blue.

Interior additions include 10.25-inch screens for the cluster and infotainment; fronting for the new MBUX software with Classic, Sporty, and Discreet display options; and Dolby Atmos sound. Cabin trim options now include Sage Gray and Black MB-Tex, red and black leather, or an open-pore brown linden wood trim. And the steering wheel is Nappa leather-wrapped, heated, and available in the AMG Line as well.

There’s more equipment, tools, like the now-standard Parking Package with 360-degree camera; and the optional Driver Assistance Package with improved lane-keep assist.

Trim options for the 2024 year include the CLA 250 Coupe, CLA 250 4Matic Coupe, AMG CLA 35 Coupe, and AMG CLA 45 S. The entry-level 250 now boasts mild-hybrid status, with a 48-volt belt-driven starter- generator that makes 13 horsepower at start-up and permits engine-off coasting. The 250’s 2.0L turbo-four makes 221 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, and pushes both the front-wheel-drive CLA and the 4Matic to 96 km/h in 6.3 seconds.

The AMG CLA 35 also now comes with the mild-hybrid setup assisting its 302-hp 2.0L four-cylinder, and connecting to an eight-speed dual-clutch instead of the outgoing seven-speed. With that “S” following the 45, the top-end AMG option now makes 416 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque instead of the 382 hp and 354 lb-ft of the outgoing 45, allowing it to rush to 96 km/h in 4.0 seconds.

The 2024 CLA Coupe is expected in dealerships later this year. Pricing has yet to be announced.
