LAST TIME: SIUE opened the 2022 campaign with a two-game West Coast trip. The Cougars dropped their season opener at Loyola Marymount last Thursday and played to a 1-1 draw at CSUN Sunday.

NEWCOMERS: Both of SIUE’s goals were scored by newcomers to the team. Transfer Ignacio Abeal Pou netted his first for SIUE in the loss at LMU while a freshman Will Harris found the back of the net against CSUN.

DIVISION RANKS: SIUE’s first two home opponents are new to Division I competition. Both Lindenwood and Southern Indiana are playing in the Summit League for men’s soccer. Both schools’ primary conference is the Ohio Valley Conference which those programs share with SIUE.

OPENING ACT: The Cougars are playing their 15th home opener since returning to the Division I level in 2008. SIUE is 6-7-1 in home openers during that time and have won four consecutive home openers dating back to 2018.

BACK IN THE VALLEY: After playing four seasons in the Mid-American Conference, SIUE returned to the Missouri Valley Conference in 2021. The Cougars previously played as affiliate members in the league from 2010-2016. SIUE won a pair of tournament championships, one regular season championship and has an overall record of 29-19-7 in the MVC.
