SAN LUIS OBISPO – Just one day after opening its preseason training camp, the Cal Poly men’s soccer team hosted its first event on the new Alex G. Spanos Stadium FieldTurf surface with the program’s annual Green vs. Gold intrasquad matchup set for 1 pm on Wednesday, Aug. 10.
Admission is free for Wednesday’s match, which will be followed by the Cal Poly women’s program’s 7 pm home exhibition versus NAIA Westmont College.
Wednesday’s intrasquad will consist of three 45-minute periods.
Welcoming back six goalscorers among its 12 returning letterwinners from a season ago, Cal Poly features one of the youngest squads in Division I with 39 combined freshmen and sophomores on the 45-player roster.
Following Wednesday’s intrasquad action, Cal Poly continues regular season preparations with home exhibitions versus Division II Fresno Pacific (Saturday, Aug. 13), UNLV (Tuesday, Aug. 16) and Santa Clara (Saturday, Aug. 20).
Cal Poly, which opened its preseason training camp on Tuesday morning, begins the 2022 regular season with a Thursday, Aug. 25 matchup versus Dayton at Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
