Eastern Illinois men’s golf will open the 2022 fall season playing Monday and Tuesday at the UT Martin Grover Page Classic. The 54-hole event will be played at the Par 72, 6,816 yard Jackson Country Club (Jackson, Tenn.)
This year’s field will include 16 schools with host UT Martin, Eastern Illinois, Austin Peay, Bellarmine, Belmont, Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, Middle Tennessee (individuals only), Morehead State, Murray State, New Orleans, Nicholls State, North Alabama, SIUE, Southeastern Louisiana, Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech.
EIU returns all six golfers from last year’s team. Pierce Allord had the Panthers best scoring average last season as he returns for his extra season of eligibility. Last season Allord carded an average of 77.85. Preston Smith was just behind in second on the team with an average of 77.91.
Lord and Keegan Gowin both posted the lowest rounds of the season last year with both players shooting a 71 during the year. Allord and Gowin each turned in a team-best two rounds of even par during the season.
Gowin was EIU’s top finisher last season when the Panthers played at the Grover Page Classic shooting three rounds in the mid-70’s for a 54-hole total of 227 which placed tied for 61st in the field.
This will be the first of four fall tournaments for EIU men’s golf.
