Meet the 2023 All-Spartanburg area high school boys golf teams, golfer of the year

Here are the All-Spartanburg area high school boys golf first and second teams, along with the 2023 Spartanburg Herald-Journal Boys Golfer of the Year.

Note: Spartanburg-area includes Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union counties. All statistics were submitted by coaches or found online at SCJGA.com. Players are listed in order by last name.

Spartanburg Herald-Journal Boys Golfer of the Year

Ben McKinney

Woodruff | Senior

With a strokes-per-round of 74.75, the Presbyterian College signee finished in the top five twice — both times on the biggest stage — a second-place finish in the Class AAA Upper State and State championship tournaments. McKinney’s 147-stroke performance in the two-round state championship was a key to propel Woodruff to the title.

All-Spartanburg Boys Golf First Team

Granger Amick

Spartanburg Day | Junior

Why chosen: Amick had one win, two top-five finishes — including a tie for third in the Spartanburg County tournament — and a ninth-place finish at the SCISA state championship tournament. His average per round was 74.14.

Andrew Gregory

Boiling Springs | Senior

Why chosen: Gregory, a Liberty signee, had one win — the Spartanburg County tournament — with five top-five finishes and a per-round average of 78.13.

Casey Kosney

Dormancy | Sophomore

Why chosen: Kosney finished in the top five three times, including tying for fourth place at the AAAAA Upper State tournament. His per-round average was 73.64.

Will Ruth

Dormancy | Freshman

Why chosen: With a per-round average of 74.36, Ruth had three top-five finishes, including a tie for fifth at the AAAAA state championship tournament.
