Here is the 2023 All-Greater Rochester Boys Golf Team as determined by a vote of Section V coaches with input from Democrat and Chronicle and Messenger Post sports writers.
Golfer of the Year
Brody Burgess
Year: Sophomore
Parents: Ashley Thayer and Brent Burgess
Key accomplishments: Winning the Section V championship, Super Sectionals, and beating the field by eight.
Future plans: I’ve started the recruiting process, hope to have a big summer and play golf at a Division I program.
Why is he Player of the Year: The award is fitting after Burgess added to a long list of accolades through his sophomore season. The Victor golfer guided Section V to a state championship. His runner-up performance led the way, almost capturing the title in a playoff hole finish. The Super Sectional champion, Burgess also successfully defended his Section V Class AA title, and helped the Blue Devils complete an unbeaten regular season.
Matt Carpentier
Year: Junior
Parents: Christine and Andrew Carpentier
Key achievements: Shooting 69 at states to move into fifth place.
Future plans: I plan to attend a top business school and play collegiate golf.
Owen Corby
Year: Senior
Parents: Kim and Charles Corby
Key achievements: NYS Federation champion by 3 shots at Bethpage Black.
Future plans: Attend Le Moyne College.
Carson French
Year: Junior
Parents: Paul and Craig French
Key achievements: 73 in the semifinals.
Future plans: I want to go to college and play golf somewhere south and study business.
George Green
Year: Senior
Parents: Steve and Jenny Green
Key achievements: Making it to states.
Future plans: I am attending college at the University of North Florida.
Alex Hill
Year: Junior
Parents: Tamari and Mathew Hill
Key achievements: Final season nine-hole average of 38.7.
Future plans: Compete in collegiate golf.
London Hoyser
Year: Senior
Parents: Stephen and Annabella
Key achievements: Medalist at sectional championship.
Future plans: Playing golf at John Carroll University.
Connor Kiel
Year: Junior
Parents: Debbie and Mike Kiel
Key achievements: Shooting 69 to qualify for the US Jr. Am.
Future plans: Goal is to play Division I golf in college after next year.
Ethan Provino
Year: Senior
Parents: Beth and Marty Provino
Key accomplishments: Winning sectionals, making states, and averaging under par.
Future plans: Going to Weber International to play golf and major in sports business management.
John Siblosky
Year: Senior
Parents: Stephanie and John Siblosky
Key achievements: Differential of -13.
Future plans: Attend Drexel University and major in computer science.
Ryan Thompson
Year: Sophomore
Parents: Kim and Stephen Thompson
Key achievements: Second place at state qualifier tournament.
Future plans: Play Division I golf in the southeastern part of the United States.
Danny Wehle
Year: Freshman
Parents: Nicole and Jason Wehle
Key accomplishments: Being undefeated all season en route to winning the Class C individual championship
Future plans: Play either Division I hockey or Division I golf.
