The 89th Stark County Amateur Men’s Golf Championship will go on this weekend without one of its most successful players.
Three-time winner Maxwell Moldovan will not play this year because he will be playing in the Southern Amateur in Tennessee. The former Green player and current Ohio State senior won the Stark Amateur in 2019, 2020 and 2022 and the Southern Amateur in 2021.
This year’s Stark Amateur will still include many past winners.
Two-time champion Vaughn Snyder and 2015 winner Aaron Crewse are among 52 players competing in the open division. The division will also feature some of the area’s top high school and college players.
Seven-time winner Dave Oates is one of 30 players in the age 50-59 division. Oates moves up to this division this year.
Five-time champion Sam Spino and two-time winner Nick Lambos are among 19 entries in the age 60-69 division.
Ohio Prestwick Country Club will host this year’s Stark Amateur on Saturday and Sunday. The first tee time is set for 8 am Ohio and Stark County Golf Hall of Famer Don Nist will be the honorary starter again this year.
The Stark Amateur is organized by the Stark County Amateur Golf Hall of Fame Committee. Spectators are welcome.
