Who is starting for the Mets?

Max Scherzer takes the mound looking to build off a very strong start in his last outing. Against Houston this week, Scherzer allowed just one run in eight innings while scattering four hits and one walk, and striking out eight. And he did so on an efficient 91 pitches.

Saturday will be the 38-year-old’s 13th start of the season. In his second season with the Mets, Scherzer has allowed 30 runs (29 earned) on 60 hits over 64.2 innings for a 4.04 ERA (4.22 FIP) and a 1.160 WHIP with 68 strikeouts.

This will be Scherzer’s sixth daytime start of the season, he has a 1.67 ERA (five runs in 27.0 innings) with eight walks and 29 strikeouts as the Mets’ Day Man.

However, the right-hander has walked 15 batters and been tagged for 11 home runs after surrendering just 24 walks and 13 dingers in 145.1 innings last year.

Who is starting for the Phillies?

Christopher Sanchez will get things started in the top of the first inning for his third start of the season.

The left-hander has allowed three runs on six hits in 8.1 innings pitched so far this campaign for a 3.24 ERA (1.95 FIP) and a 1.080 WHIP. He has walked three batters and struck out 10.

He has appeared in 10 games (eight starts) for the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs, pitching to a 4.35 ERA in 49.2 innings with a 1.450 WHIP. He has walked 29 and struck out 44 and allowed six long balls with Lehigh Valley

Sanchez, 26, appeared in 15 games a season ago (three starts) and pitched to a 5.63 ERA (4.56 FIP) over 40.0 innings.

Upcoming schedule

The Mets and Phillies conclude their weekend series on Sunday, with first pitch set for 1:35 pm, before heading home to open a series with Milwaukee.

Carlos Carrasco (2-3, 6.34 ERA) will get the start against the right-hander Zack Wheeler (6-4, 3.48 ERA).
