Mavs Gaming Wins NBA 2K League 2022 The Ticket Tournament

Mavs Gaming, the NBA 2K League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks, won its first tournament in franchise history. The team took home The Ticket tournament championship Saturday, August 13, and $50,000 cash.

Gerald “Sick One” Knapp, Mavs Gaming’s starting center, paced the team. He averaged a double-double with 11.5 points and 12.3 rebounds to earn tournament MVP honors. He also dished 3.1 assists.

“I feel somewhat accomplished,” Knapp told the media. “I got one goal left: To win the championship. And then who knows what happens after that.”

Before making it to the championship game, Mavs Gaming knocked off Blazer5 Gaming, Pistons GT
GT
and Kings Guard Gaming. Heading into their matchup with the Kings, the team had a game plan ready and felt like they had the upper hand.

“Just make sure on the offensive end we’re not turning over the ball [and] we’re staying composed throughout the whole game,” said Kenneth “KennyZeus” Strombeck, Mavs Gaming’s point guard. “It’s a long game. Anything can happen. Just going out there and playing Mavs Gaming ball. We feel like when we’re playing our game, nobody can beat us.”

Mavs Gaming defeated Magic Gaming in the finals 63-58 to win the NBA 2K League’s third and final in-season 5v5 tournament. In notching the win, Mavs Gaming secured the eleventh seed in the 2022 NBA2KL 5v5 Championships.

They will take on Bucks Gaming in the first round of the NBA2KL Championships.

“It’s going to take all five of us locked in,” Knapp said about facing the Bucks. “We’re going to have to play defense. They’re a defensive team. We know it’s going to be maybe a little tough on offense, but defense wins championships. As long as we can keep it a nice, low-scoring game, I like our chances.”

The 5v5 NBA2KL Championships start on August 24. All games will take place at The Pavilion at Pan Am in downtown Indianapolis and are available on the NBA 2K League’s Twitch and YouTube channels.
