It is clear that major changes are coming in golf over the next couple of years.
Not only could the establishment of LIV Golf shift the balance power somewhat in the pro ranks, but the PGA Tour will also undergo some big alterations in the near future.
Changes have already been confirmed to the sport’s schedule, with the biggest names on tour committed to playing in 20 events each season. There will also be minimum earnings introduced for members of the tour, as well as increased prize money for those who finish near the bottom of the leaderboard at a given event.
The most eye-catching addition will be a completely new format.
TMRW Sports, which has been launched by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, wants a ‘high-tech golf league’ that will see six three-man teams compete in 18-hole indoor events. It is expected that the first competition will take place early in 2024.
A number of big names invest in TMRW Sports
It is a huge change for the PGA Tour, very much vaulting it into the 21st century. It will be interesting to see how the new format is received, but some are expecting it to be a major success.
A number of major sports stars have invested in the company involved, including NBA legend Steph Curry and F1’s Lewis Hamilton. The likes of Serena Williams, Gareth Bale, Andy Murray, and Justin Timberlake have also come onboard. Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group are also involved.

Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods have been among the strongest voices to speak out against LIV Golf, with this venture thought to be one way to combat the threat posed by the Saudi-backed league.
It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out in the years ahead.
