What to Watch For
- Ilya Samsonov is expected to make his seventh consecutive start in goal for the Toronto Maple Leafs and it will be his eighth consecutive appearance in the net. The Russian goaltender was in net for 40 minutes on Nov. 5 and helped Boston their second loss. Samsonov has taken the reins of Toronto’s starting goaltender based solely on his performance. He has a 5-1-1 record and a .925 save percentage in his last eight appearances in goal. Linus Ullmark is expected to start for Boston, but they could go with Jeremy Swayman, as Boston looks to potentially rest their starter ahead of NHL All-Star Weekend.
- William Nylander has been on a tear for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The talented forward is on a seven-game points streak where he has amassed six goals and six assists. Nylander has been needed to drive the team’s second line with John Tavares needed on the top line alongside Mitch Marner and Michael Bunting.
- Boston’s David Pastrnak sits fourth in scoring with 71 points and second in the league in goals scored with 38. He was held without a point for the first time in six games in the team’s 4-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Jan. 29.
Injury Report
The Maple Leafs are without forward Auston Matthews (knee), and goaltender Matt Murray (ankle). Defenseman Jake Muzzin (spine), Carl Dahlstrom (shoulder), and Victor Mete (lower body) are on long-term injured reserve. Forward Nick Robertson was shut down for the season with a shoulder injury.
The Bruins are without Jake DeBrusk (hand and lower-body injury). Vinni Lettieri was injured during Bruins practice on Tuesday and did not make the trip.
