Man Held For Breaking Into Car, Stealing Costly Laptop | Chennai News

Chennai: Police arrested a 44-year-old man, who is a serial theft accused, for breaking into a parked car and stealing a costly laptop on Saturday near Vadapalani. According to the police, the accused identified as S Vivekananda of Thayanur taluk in Trichy district. Police said Vinothkumar, 37, of Saligramworks in a private firm and had parked his car near a private scan center in Vadapalani.
When he returned he found the window glass broken and his laptop, kept in the back seat, missing. Based on his complaint, the Vadapalani police registered a case and scanned the CCTV footage in the neighborhood areas.
The police got visuals of a man breaking into the car and zeroed in on the suspect and arrested him. An FIR has been registered against the accused Vivekanandan for breaking into the car and stealing laptop under various sections. The stolen laptop was recovered from him.
Police investigations revealed that the accused had been involved in several theft cases. Later, he was remanded in judicial custody.
A police officer, who studied the modus operandi of the thief, urged the residents to avoid leaving anything valuable in the car.
“Any item that is visible from the outside, even if you think it is worthless, could be seen as a valuable item to a thief. Even a spare change or even an empty bag, could be valuable in the mind of a thief, said a police officer.
On inquiring how he broke the car’s window, Vivekanandan explained that he used the regular ‘sling shot method’ using a rubber band, hair pin and plastic wrappers to hit the glass and break it open.
