Bareilly: A man, who was accused of stealing a mobile phone from a passenger in the Delhi-bound 14205 Ayodhya Cantt Old Delhi Express, was brutally thrashed and thrown off the moving train on Friday night. A video of the entire incident has gone viral on several social media platforms.
The man, in his early 20s, died after his head hit an overhead line pole near Tilhar railway station in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur, reported The Times of India (TOI).

On Saturday, the police recovered a 66-second video purportedly shot by a passenger traveling in the same compartment in which the incident took place a day before.

In the now-viral video, several people could be seen laughing, mocking, and assaulting the man. Later, one of the passengers identified as Narendra Dubey could be seen abusing, blowing fists, and pushing him out of the general compartment while the man could be seen crying for mercy and begging for his life.

According to police, a woman traveling on the train on Sunday complained about her missing mobile phone near Shahjahanpur railway station. The phone was later allegedly recovered from a man, who is believed to have boarded the train from Lucknow, reported TOI

After the recovery of the mobile phone from the man, an angry mob hurled abuses and thrashed him for nearly half an hour and then threw him out of the train.

Police recovered the mutilated body of the man on the railway tracks. He had a deep wound on his head and one of his legs was severed, reported TOI

As per reports, accused Narendra Dubey was arrested at Bareilly junction railway station by GRP constables Satyaveer Singh, Lokendra Singh, and Naushad Ali after an FIR was registered against him under IPC section 302 (murder) on the complaint of one of them.

SHO (GRP-Bareilly) Vinod Kumar said that the FIR was registered in Bareilly while the incident was reported from the Tilhar area of the Shahjahanpur district. “We have transferred the case to Tilhar police station,” said the official.

Speaking to TOI, SHO of Tilhar police station, Rajkumar Sharma, meanwhile said that the autopsy report stated that he died of antemortem injuries. “We have taken the viral video into consideration. Some more names may be added to the list of accused after a thorough investigation. The arrested man has been sent to jail,” said Sharma.

“The victim is yet to be identified despite all efforts by us to know about him. We have shared his picture in nearby districts and expect to get some results soon,” he added.
