A pair of injuries have struck the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat in key backcourt players, according to recent reports. For the Celtics, the Athletic’s Jared Weiss shares that veteran guard Malcolm Brogdon has been playing with an injured arm since Game 1 of the 2023 East finals.
Having torn a tendon in his arm in the first game of the series, an otherwise 44.4% 3-point shooter has since gone 3-of-14 from beyond the arc. On the Heat side of things, the Athletic’s Shams Charania reports that point guard Gabe Vincent will miss Game 5 due to an ankle sprain sustained in Game 4.
Although each loss is not a minor issue for either team, the Celtics’ depth will perhaps grant them a slight edge over the Heat, who are already down two key contributors in Victor Oladipo and Tyler Herro.

For Boston, down 1-3 in the series, simply having more capable bodies could be enough to force a Game 6 if the team comes out and plays with the same level of cohesion and focus as they did in Game 4.
