‘Made Me Wanna Do It’: LIV Golf Defector Bubba Watson Reveals How Patrick Reed Inspired Him During Rehab

The majority of the LIV golf players defected in June last year. Among the well-known starters was a name that every golf fanatic knew. Bubba Watson. The left-handed golfer has been away from the sport for the majority of the last year due to an injury. Although he has not yet debuted on the course for the Saudi-backed series, he recently revealed his motivation to get back on the course. And much to the fans’ surprise, it was because of the actions of Patrick Reed last year.

The long-distance driver underwent surgery last year and has since been sidelined from the game. But he has since been inspired to “frame” hard to make a return to the game. And it’s all thanks to the 2018 Masters winner.

In the 2022 LIV season, despite not being able to play, Watson was still involved in the Saudi Series. He was sitting in as a commentator on many events. The last event he called for was one in which Patrick Reed helped his team, the 4 Aces, secure the team championship title.

As he watched the nine-time PGA Tour winner hole a birdie for the win, he was inspired in his recovery. “Knowing Patrick over these years and being able to see his excitement for that, it made me want to do it,” the left-handed golfer said, as per a recent article on the LIV Golf website.

He added that he didn’t just want it for himself but also his team. Watson craved the feeling of helping his comrades secure a win. Seeing Reed and his team celebrate what he had accomplished motivated him.

It is quite clear that what the two-time Masters winner yearned for more than the big prize money was the team. He wanted to “pull of something” like what Reed had achieved and celebrate with his team. “This is why we joined LIV, for the team aspect.”

“I’m anxious to get back with the team and try to pull off amazing shots,” said the 12-time PGA Tour champion. The golf pro will return in February for LIV’s first event of 2023. The Series has 14 events on its schedule this year, and fans eagerly await Watson’s return, waiting to cheer his team on.
