MacBook Air 15: Apple rumored to have 15.5-inch model ready for spring 2023 release

  • by

According to new information from Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), Apple remains on track to release a larger MacBook Air model next year. Purportedly, Apple’s plan is still to launch a 15-inch MacBook Air, which Young and Mark Gurman first reported in June. Now, Young has expanded upon his previous expectations in a tweet shared with Super Followers.

Specifically, Young alleges that Apple’s suppliers will start producing 15.5-inch panels in Q1 2023, not 15.2-inch ones earlier rumors had suggested. The analyst adds that Apple will release the MacBook Air 15 in spring 2023, which runs between March 20 and June 21. In other words, there is a good chance that there will be no MacBook Air refresh until Q2 2023, unsurprising considering panel production commencing a quarter earlier

The timing of the release implies that the MacBook Air 15 will launch with Apple M2, not Apple M3. Although the Apple M2 will be nearly a year old at that point, we doubt that Apple will announce third-generation in-house SoCs before the M2 Pro, M2 Max and M2 Ultra. Currently, the MacBook Air 15 is rumored to arrive with the same design as its 13.6-inch counterpart, along with its MagSafe 3 connector and Force Touch trackpad. The 15.5-inch display is expected to peak at 60 Hz too, with 120 Hz ProMotion reserved for MacBook Pro models.
