OMAHA, Neb. — South Carolina shortstop Michael Braswell is transferring to LSU baseball, he announced on Twitter on Thursday.
Braswell, a sophomore, posted a .255 batting average in 51 games this season after becoming an All-SEC Freshman team selection in 2022.
“Blessed to say I will be continuing my baseball career at Louisiana State University. GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!!” Braswell wrote.
At 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, he was the No. 5 player in Georgia coming out of Campbell High School, according to Perfect Game.
The Tigers have two holes to fill in the middle infield for next year, with starting shortstop Jordan Thompson departing for the MLB Draft and starting second baseman Gavin Dugas running out of eligibility.
LSU is expected to bring back infielder/pitcher Gavin Guidry and infielder Ben Nippolt, but Braswell will add more depth.
Meanwhile, LSU’s 2023 season continues on Saturday, as the Tigers face Tennessee in their first game at the College World Series at 6 pm Saturday (ESPN).
