The London girls golf team finished fourth overall in the final team standings at the Class 3A UIL State Golf Tournament and Calallen’s Brooke Caldwell shaved three strokes off her first round to finish tied for fifth in Class 4A to lead Coastal Bend area competitors in greater Austin on Tuesday.
After opening with a 78, Caldwell fired a 75 on Tuesday for a two-round 153, which was two strokes off the podium.
Rockport-Fulton’s Hannah Creekmore was unable to duplicate her first round success finishing ninth after carding 76-79—155.
The London girls were the best Corpus Christi finisher in the team race in any classification, after shooting 395-391—786 to conclude their season with a fourth-place finish in Class 3A, 72 shots behind third place Gunter. London’s low scorer was Charly Renteria, who fired 95-85—180.
Calallen qualified its girls team in Class 4A and the Wildcats improved their opening round by 20 strokes and shot 362-342—704 to finish eighth.
Mia McCall of Tuloso-Midway closed her season with a two-round tally of 179 and Kieli Saenz (Veterans Memorial), the area’s lone Class 5A qualifier, shot identical 81s to card a 162.
The boys UIL State Golf Tournament is scheduled to begin next Monday.
