The ongoing battle between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour is set to become even more embittered after the Saudi-backed Golf association released a brutal 17-word response to Tiger Woods‘ announcement on Thursday.
Woods and Rory McIlroy have announced that they would be partnering with the PGA Tour to start a new competition called TGL.
TGL is set to see six teams each consisting of three players playing across 15 Monday night events, with each of these individual events taking less than two hours to complete.
As the T20 format did to the world of domestic cricket, this short-burst format of golf is designed with the intention of growing wider interest in the sport.
However, with this tournament going in direct competition with LIV Golf’s own plans to make the sport more accessible and entertaining, the group has released a response.
“LIV Golf is clearly the best thing that’s ever happened to help the careers of professional golfers,” LIV Golf’s statement read.
As reported by The Mirror, McIlroy believes in the concept behind TGL, and hopes that it will help rejuvenate the PGA Tourwhich had suffered significant losses with the emergence of LIV Golf.
“I just thing it’s going to be a really cool concept,” McIlroy stated.
“Tiger and I are incredibly excited.”
