The LIV Golf League is shaping up and we now know four venues that will be hosting $25m tournaments in 2023.
LIV Golf claimed they were ahead of schedule when they inaugurated 2022 season came to a close, paying out $255m in prize money.
That started in June at the Centurion Club just outside of London which was won by the South African Charl Schwartzel.
Seven events later the season came to a close with the $50m Team Championship at Trump National Doral in Miami.
That was won by the 4 Aces GC side, captained by Dustin Johnson.
Johnson memorably resigned his PGA Tour membership after signing a multi-year deal with the tour, commissioned by Greg Norman.
Johnson was the biggest earner for LIV Golf on the course in 2022 in what can only be described as a landmark year in the game.
The PGA Tour announced huge changes in response to LIV Golf, increasing their own prize purses with a series of elevated events.
They also strengthened their ties with the European-based DP World Tour. Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have spearheaded the response.
LIV played in four countries in their first season but they have announced that they have expanded to a schedule of 14 events in 2023.
They claim the LIV Golf League in 2023 will have as many as 60 players involved.
LIV claims they want to create a truly global golf tour. One of their biggest stars is Cameron Smith who captains the all-Australian side Punch GC.
The Saudi-financed league has already announced a stop in Australia. LIV has also snapped up a PGA Tour venue in El Camaleón.
El Camaleón was designed by Norman.
LIV have also snapped up a DP World Tour venue in Real Club Valderrama, which hosted the Andalucia Masters
LIV will also visit Singapore in 2023, stopping at Sentosa Golf Club in April.
