The popularity of gaming handhelds has grown significantly in the last few years, with most pursuing AMD APUs of some kind. The majority run Windows too, with the Steam Deck a notable exception. However, there are also a few devices geared towards cloud game streaming, such as the Logitech G Cloud. Lenovo also created an equivalent, which it seems planned to reveal during MWC 2021.
While that never happened, someone has now sought to liquidate the stock of what Taki Udon describes as prototype units. As the image above shows, numerous prototypes were available and for allegedly as little as US$160. Additionally, the prototypes reveal the following specifications:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC
- Android 11 with custom launcher
- 7-inch display – 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, HDR10 support
- Stereo front-facing speakers
- 7,000 mAh battery
- 436 g weight
Arguably, the device’s specifications suggest that Lenovo would have charged significantly more for the Legion Play than the G Cloud, which initially launched for US$349.99. Logitech has since reduced the device to US$299.99, although it is worth remembering that the G Cloud offers the lowly Snapdragon 720G and not the Snapdragon 888 powering the Legion Play. The Snapdragon 888 is no match for the likes of the custom AMD APU powering the Steam Deck though, which may explain the Legion Play’s cancellation.
