But it’s equally easy to overspend on a machine that does far more than you need it to. Before you commit to a purchase, make sure you’re clear-eyed about what this purchase could lead to.
If you’re buying a desktop, for example, you may need to also invest in a keyboard, mouse and monitor. If you’re a playwright, you could easily get away with a Chromebook — or, if you prefer not to put all your work in the cloud, a low-cost Windows machine like the Acer Aspire 5.
