Kuhn resigns as Lock Haven’s women’s soccer coach News, Sports, Jobs

LOCK HAVEN — Maggie Kuhn, who has spent the last three years as coach of the Lock Haven University women’s soccer team, announced her resignation. Kuhn has been named the assistant coach at Akron University.

Dr. Peter Campbell, who currently serves as a professor in the sports studies program at Lock Haven, has been appointed as the interim coach for the 2022 season. The Bald Eagles will open the season at home against California (Pa.) on Thursday, Aug. 25, at 5 p.m

“I am very confident that our women’s soccer program will continue to grow and flourish under the guidance and leadership of Dr. Campbell,” said Dr. Tom Gioglio, Lock Haven director of athletics. “Peter is a successful coach and an outstanding teacher that will provide an experience that allows the student-athletes to continue to develop while assisting them in meeting their goals.”

Campbell is the winningest coach in the history of the LHU women’s soccer program with 42 wins over three seasons (1999-2000 and 2004) and he coached the program to two of its three Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships in school history in 1999 and 2000.

In his three seasons, Campbell took the Bald Eagles all the way to the NCAA Division II quarterfinals in 1999 and the Northeast Regional finals in 2000. His overall record stands at 42-13-6 and he sports a 25-3-2 conference record. .

During Kuhn’s two-season tenure, both Marah Foltz and Hunter McClellan earned All-Conference honors.

In 2021-22, Kuhn’s guidance saw the Bald Eagles hit high marks in the classroom as 27 student-athletes were named PSAC Scholar-Athletes in 2021-22.
