The way Mike Brown turned the Kings around in the 2022-23 NBA season is receiving more deserved attention. It is becoming clear that he might be the favorite to win the NBA’s Coach of the Year.
Kevin Garnett, an NBA legend and host of the “KG Certified” podcast, said in a recent episode in no uncertain terms that the reigning Western Conference Coach of the Month is deserving of the annual award.
“And I got Mike Brown for Coach of the Year,” Garnett told his co-host and former teammate Paul Pierce. “F–k you mean, the Kings ain’t going nowhere. This is real. This is real out here.”

Garnett then used an interesting metaphor to describe how “real” Brown is, comparing him to someone being ill-prepared in the cold California winter, forcing that person to head back inside their warm house.
“That’s Mike Brown. Mike Brown is real. The Kings are real,” Garnett added.
The former NBA champion also gave props to the Kings team as a whole as well as Sacramento’s All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox, likening his play to a player with everything on the line.
“He’s playing mad,” Garnett said to Pierce. “He’s playing angry. He’s playing like, ‘I got a contract year coming, I’m on a contract year.’ “
Garnett is not the only pundit to back Brown as this season’s coach of the year. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith declared in late February that Brown should win the award in a “landslide.”

It is clear Brown is one of the main cogs in helping turn Sacramento’s fortunes around this season.
And if what Garnett, Smith and the Kings players said is any indication, Brown should be receiving a new piece of hardware at the conclusion of this season.
