MASSILLON — Aidan Longwell is an amateur no more.
The Massillon product and Kent State first baseman has signed with the Colorado Rockies, who picked Longwell in the 17th round of the Major League Baseball Draft last week.
MLB.com’s Jim Callis reported that Longwell (the 502nd overall selection) signed for a bonus of $130,000. Turning pro forfeits his senior season with the Golden Flashes.

He’s coming off quite the high as a junior this past spring. The 21-year-old Longwell earned Collegiate Baseball News All-America third team and first-team honors from the Mid-American Conference and the East Region coaches association.
Longwell batted .409, the best mark by a Golden Flash in 22 years. His 75 RBIs led the MAC and were the third most in Kent State history.
The lefty hitter totaled 10 home runs, 23 doubles and 60 runs scored. He also did not commit an error in 432 total chances and was a Rawlings Gold Glove finalist at first baseball.
Longwell also performed well in limited innings on the mound. He was 1-0 with a 1.45 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 18.2 innings. Opponents batted .098 off him.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Longwell has reported to the Rockies’ rookie affiliate in Scottsdale, Arizona.
