Kaitlin Richins Named Mountain West Soccer Freshman of the Week

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State redshirt freshman midfielder Kaitlin Richins has been named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week after leading the Aggies to an unbeaten start to the 2022 season.

In USU’s 2-2 draw at Northern Arizona in the season opener, Richins made her first collegiate start and played in 66 minutes. In the Aggies’ 5-0 rout of Idaho State in the home opener, Richins scored what will be in the running for goal of the year when her strike from the opposite side of the 18 curled into the upper 90 of the goal in the 33rd minute. Richins then added an assist on the punctuating fifth goal of the match when her cross in the 80th minute found the foot of the senior forward. Jordan Foraker. Foraker took the pass and drilled the ball into the back of the net.

Richins and the Aggies return to the pitch on Thursday, Aug. 25, hosting Illinois State at 5 pm (MT), in the second contest of a three-game homestand. Utah State wraps up the week by welcoming Grand Canyon to Chuck and Gloria Bell Field on Sunday, Aug. 28, at 1 p.m
