Justin Jefferson, Saquon Barkley jump to lead for 2022 NFL awards

The Minnesota Vikings made quite the impression in Week 1 by topping their NFC North rival Green Bay Packers. In particular, wide receiver Justin Jefferson and new head coach Kevin O’Connell have captured the public’s attention.

Jefferson has taken the lead to win the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year award after Week 1, according to BetMGM. Meanwhile, O’Connell has leapt over the odds to win the league’s Coach of the Year honor along with the Dolphins’ Mike McDaniel.

The Vikings wideout exploded for a career-high 184 yards on nine receptions and two touchdowns in Week 1. O’Connell and McDaniel each picked up wins in their head coaching debuts with the Vikings beating the Packers and the Dolphins knocking off the Patriots.

Meanwhile, Giants running back Saquon Barkley propelled himself to the top of the oddsmakers’ leaderboard after rushing for 164 yards, one TD and the game-clinching two-point conversion in New York’s win over the Titans.

There’s been some shuffling in the odds for Defensive Player of the Year and Comeback Player of the Year.

The Steelers’ TJ Watt took a significant hit after he left Pittsburgh’s Week 1 win over the Bengals with a pectoral injury late in the fourth quarter.
