The agent for Vancouver Canucks forward JT Miller has not had any contract talks with the team since the 2022 NHL Draft in Montreal, according to a report by Rick Dhaliwal.
Miller is represented by Brian Bartlett of Bartlett Hockey. The 2022 NHL Draft took place at the Bell Center in Montreal on July 7 and 8.
Dhaliwal also noted that Bartlett has not been given permission to talk with any other teams about a potential contract extension for his client.
Miller, 29, led the Canucks with 32 goals and 99 points in 80 games during the 2021–22 regular season. He has one year remaining on his contract at a $5.25 million cap hit and is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent next July.
The Canucks originally acquired Miller from the Tampa Bay Lightning prior to the 2019–20 season. The 6’1″, 218-pound forward has scored 74 goals and 217 points in 202 games over his three years in Vancouver.
Asked by Dhaliwal whether the Miller camp might cut off contract talks with the Canucks once the 2022–23 season starts, Bartlett responded: “I have not talked to JT about that yet but it is a realistic possibility.”
Miller’s window to sign a contract extension with the Canucks opened on July 13 of this year. He’ll be 30 when his next deal kicks in, and he’ll be eligible to sign an eight-year extension at any point throughout the 2022-23 season.
