  • by

Roman Jose showcases a hidden talent and talks about going home to Bern, Switzerland to play a preseason game against his former team on the new episode of the “NHL @TheRink” podcast.

The Nashville Predators defenseman was asked by co-hosts Dan Rosen and Shawn P. Roarke what he would do if the NHL had players participate in a talent show.

“My wife and I did that the other day and I said beatboxing,” Josi said. “We used to do it when we were kids in school. I feel like you get asked that question a lot and never have an answer, so I just said that.”

And then he actually did it, a first on the podcast.

Josi also talked about returning to Bern for the Predators 2022 NHL Global Series Challenge. Nashville will play SC Bern, his team before he came to North America in 2010-11, at PostFinance Arena on Monday.

“It’s going to be something special,” Josi said. “I grew up five minutes away from that rink. I spent my whole junior career in Bern, played three years of pro there. To go back now and play against that team with an NHL team is pretty cool. My whole family is still there. . My best friends who I grew up with are still there. It’s going to be really special.”

San Jose Sharks forward Thomas Hertl also discussed going to his hometown of Prague to open the regular season with two games against Josi and the Predators in the 2022 NHL Global Series at the O2 Arena on Oct. 7 and 8.

“It’ll be amazing,” Hertl said. “I don’t know how many guys know it, but I was born in Prague, and I played in that arena for two years before I got to the NHL. I know the arena and I know everything around it. It’s a dream come true. true to bring my team to Prague and play in front of my friends and family.”

Hertl’s one goal as the Sharks resident tour guide is to get the players to taste the local beer.

“I think our beer is some of the best,” Hertl said. “Hopefully the boys will enjoy it. Whoever has been in Prague, you have to taste the beer.”

Rosen and Roarke also discuss why the NHL continues to focus on playing and marketing the game overseas, expectations for the Sharks, why the Predators could challenge the Colorado Avalanche for first in the Central Division, and who should be the Toronto Maple Leafs No. 1 goalie, Ilya Samsonov or Matt Murray.
