JioBook laptop listed on Indian Govt website at Rs. 19500! Check the specs

JioBook laptop has been listed on the Indian Government’s e Marketplace at a price of Rs. 19500. Check details.

Amid rumors of a Jio laptop finding no takers in the wake of 5G launch in India, Reliance Jio may have quietly revealed its first laptop, albeit in a rather weird way. The JioBook laptop has been listed for sale on the Indian Government’s eMarketplace and you can buy it today, provided you are a reseller. The laptop is still not available to end consumers and only resellers can buy it in a minimum consignment quantity of 1 piece. Jio hasn’t announced anything on this front.

Based on the marketplace listing, the JioBook essentially falls in the category of netbooks. This means the laptop is primarily built keeping in mind the educational needs of students. The price tag on a single piece states Rs. 19,500 and there in only a single variant. Similar to the JioPhone Next, it comes in a dark blue shade. Here is everything you need to know about the JioBook laptop.

The JioBook appears to be an entry-level Windows laptop with bare minimum specification to function as a netbook. The listing states that the laptop runs on JioOS, which is rumored to be a modified version of Microsoft Windows designed to run on low-end hardware. It was previously revealed that Jio was working with Microsoft and Qualcomm to make this laptop happen. Hence, JioOS could support some of the popular Microsoft apps optimized to run well with old hardware.

On the processor side, the JioBook is an ARM based laptop. Hence, the laptop relies on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 chipset, which was popular with entry-level Android phones in 2020 and 2021. The chipset allows 4G connectivity, which allows Jio to bundle its 4G data services with the laptop.

This Snapdragon 662 is accompanied by 2GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 32GB of eMMC storage. Hence, performance is not going to be the highlight on this Windows machine. The laptop also features an 11.6-inch display with fat bezels and a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels; no touch support here. You also get a compact QWERTY keyboard as well as a trackpad. There is a dual speaker setup as well. The entire laptop is made of plastic, with metal hinges for the lid.

But Rs. 19500, the JioBook seems to be designed strictly for enterprise usage in schools, where students cannot afford modern and fast Windows laptops. However, the JioBook competes with a couple of similarly equipped Chromebook laptops from HP, Asus, and Lenovo, all of which run on the faster ChromeOS platform.
