The Jets will once again roll with Zach Wilson as their quarterback when New York hosts Jacksonville on Thursday night, coach Robert Saleh said Tuesday. Here’s what you need to know:
- Saleh said starter Mike White has not been cleared for contact and will be out against Jacksonville. Saleh considers White “week to week” with the rib injury, which occurred in a Week 14 loss to the Bills.
- Wilson went 18-of-35 passing for 317 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the Jets’ Week 15 loss to the Lions.
The Athletic’s instant analysis:
Behind Wilson’s Week 15 outing
New York got the full Wilson experience and only left the Lions game with more questions about what its future looks like at QB — and how things might have gone on Sunday with some consistency. After a solid first half (8-of-14 for 185 yards and a touchdown) he was wildly inconsistent in the second half. He threw a third-quarter interception and even a valiant effort on the final drive was not enough to overcome some bad throws. — Rosenblatt
Backstory
The Jets (7-7) benched Wilson ahead of their Week 12 game against the Chicago Bears and opted to start White. The move was made after a 10-3 loss to the Patriots in which Wilson completed just nine of 22 passes for 77 yards. Wilson and the Jets were limited to just two yards of offense in the second half of that game.
The No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft was statistically ranked as one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL at the time with four touchdown passes in seven games against five interceptions.
What they’re saying
Robert Saleh on Zach Wilson: “He just needs time.”
Has been emphasizing that Wilson deserves time to develop, and that he showed some flashes of what he can do on Sunday.#jets

Robert Saleh said he doesn’t think it’s fair to compare Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson (or any player to another player in their draft class) because every situation is different. #Jets
