Jayson Tatum is one of the best young players in the league, and he is well-known for being a versatile wing player who can do a little bit of everything on the basketball court. He averaged 26.9 PPG, 8.0 RPG, and 4.4 APG while shooting 35.3% from beyond the arc during the regular season for the Boston Celtics.
The 2021-22 season was a big one for Jayson Tatum, as it marked his first Finals appearance. Unfortunately, Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics were unable to win the Finals, falling to Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors in six games.
When speaking to Taylor Rooks of Bleacher Report, Jayson Tatum admitted that losing in the finals made him “miserable”. He stated that he gave “everything” that he had, and felt as though he “ran out” in the Finals. It is clear that losing was agonizing for the superstar.
Those 3-4 days later, I was miserable… It took some time to kind of get out of that funk, and kind of enjoy my life, enjoy being around my son and my family.
It’s just tough. I feel like sometimes I come off so laid back, that I don’t know if people understand how much I invest in this game. How much I care, how hard I work… It was just so tough because I literally gave everything that I had. To feel like I ran out, like I didn’t have anything left to give, and we were so close… I didn’t want to talk, I didn’t want to go anywhere. I was just in my house for 3-4 days straight.
While this is definitely heartbreaking to hear that Jayson Tatum felt this way, the silver lining is that the Boston Celtics could definitely get back to the NBA Finals next season. They added elite combo guard Malcolm Brogdon this offseason and will give the Celtics a scoring boost off the bench and provide consistent offense next to Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
The Boston Celtics have a bright future, and Jayson Tatum is likely to become the next great legend for the team. He will likely be back with a vengeance next year, and perhaps we’ll even see Tatum end up winning the MVP award as he tries to lead the Celtics to another top-tier finish in the Eastern Conference.
