Who better than the highest scoring Czech player in NHL history to drop the ceremonial first puck in Prague?
Former NHL forward Jaromir Jagr made an appearance at the 2022 NHL Global Series game between the San Jose Sharks and Nashville Predators at the O2 Arena on Saturday. It was the second game of the two-game series between the teams.
Jagr, whose 766 NHL goals are fourth on the career list behind only Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe and Alex Ovechkinreceived a warm ovation from the Czech crowd as he stepped onto the ice.
The two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Pittsburgh Penguins and 1999 Hart Trophy winner spent 24 seasons in the NHL before retiring in 2018. He also played for the Washington Capitals, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Dallas Stars, Boston Bruins, New Jersey. Devils, Florida Panthers and Calgary Flames.
Since leaving the NHL, he has played for the hockey club he owns from his hometown, HC Kladno in the Czech Republic.
Jagr has not suited up for a game this year for HC Kladno telling NHL.com that he hasn’t had time to practice and is more important to his team as an owner than a player right now.
In classic Jagr fashion, he didn’t totally rule out playing this season, he just needs to find the time.
