‘It’s world class golf’: TPS Murray River returns to Cobram-Barooga

Featuring world class golfers alongside some of the sport’s future stars, the event is one not to be missed.

Played in honor of Jarrod Lyle, the world-leading inclusive tournament has men and women battle it out for the same prize, while junior and all-abilities events add to an action-packed calendar.

PGA Tour of Australasia director Nick Dastey said The Player Series had gone from strength to strength in recent years.

“It’s a world-leading format, it’s the most inclusive format of tournament golf anywhere in the world,” Dastey said.

“While the men and the women competing against each other is one thing, we have elite amateurs that can compete in the tournament proper as well, which is great for their development and experience.

“Having the juniors joining on the weekend is extremely unique, they get to play their own 36-hole tournament.

“And then there’s the all-abilities section this year which is a new introduction.”

Set to feature South Korean Min A. Yoon — fresh off a TPS Victoria win last week — and the likes of Australian Cassie Porter, Sarah Jane Smith, David Micheluzzi and Andrew Martin among a host of young and experienced golfing talents, the action is set to be exciting.

Last year Australian talent Hannah Green made history at the event, becoming the first female golfer to take out a Player Series title.

On point: Cobram Barooga Golf Club turned it on for the tournament last year.

On Saturday a sea of yellow will greet competitors, with Yellow Day played in honor of Lyle.

Encouraging people from across the region to descend on the course for the event, Dastey said it would be great to see as many people attend as possible.

“It’s world class golf that they’ll get to see,” he said.

“The quality of players is unbelievable, so get out here, it’s a gold coin donation to enter and they’ll see some fantastic stuff.”

Beginning with a Pro-AM on Wednesday, the likes of legendary English cricketer Sir Ian Botham and AFL legend Dermott Brereton will hit the fairways to get proceedings under way.

Tournament action will run from Thursday to Sunday with entry being a gold coin donation to Challenge, a charity that supports children battling cancer.
