Is Josh Allen the right comparison for Steelers QB Kenny Pickett?

In 2022, the NFL got its first look at Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett and frankly, the results were mixed. But given the circumstances, there is nothing but optimism for Pickett in year two with a full season and offseason under his belt.

But what kind of quarterback do the Steelers need? Or I suppose more specifically, in today’s NFL, who does Pickett compare to in terms of potential and is this the direction the team needs him to go?

Pickett’s teammate, cornerback Levi Wallace was on Good Morning Football and he offered up a nice comparison to his former teammate, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. But not in the way you might think.

“I’ve seen him come in and just be hungry and just wanna learn the game. And obviously, there’s a transition period when you’re a rookie, but that first week in Buffalo, I’m trying to go home and get some and get some rest, and he wants to stay and watch film and ask me questions about Buffalo’s defense, cause he just wants to win so bad. He reminds me a lot of Josh [Allen], as much as he’s a competitor, the way he prepares. I mean the guy, he just always wants to keep doing it, right? And if we could be out there for three hours and keep doing reps on offense, I know he would.”

Pickett’s work ethic and desire to improve have never been called into question. Even this offseason, Pickett’s teammates have come out and talked about how driven Pickett is for this season. We’ve all seen the videos of Pickett working out tirelessly all offseason, working with his receivers to build that chemistry.
