LUBBOCK – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros indoor track & field team wrapped up the Texas Tech Open on Saturday with freshman Symoria Adkins making her second entry into the program record books and senior Edinburg North alum Tristan Pena and freshman McAllen Memorial alum Sebastian Salinas both earning top-10 finishes in the men’s mile.
Adkins finished 38th in the women’s 200-meter dash, which saw over 100 student-athletes compete, by running 24.96. Her performance is the ninth fastest in program history. On Friday, Adkins set a new program record in the women’s 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 8.64.
UTRGV’s men’s milers also had a good day on the track. Pena placed eighth (4:21.21) and Salinas (4:21.45) was right behind to finish ninth. Freshman Abraham Morales and sophomore Rio Grande City alum Alex Canales added 13th and 21St place finishes to cap a solid day for the indoor distance crew. Junior Samantha Gonzalez (12th), freshman PSJA High alum Faith Cruz (23rd) and junior McAllen Rowe alum Janie Delgado (24th) all finished in the top-25 of the women’s mile.
UTRGV will return to Lubbock for the Jarvis Scott Open Feb. 10-11.
