Huawei Matebook D 16 redefines the way you carry a 16 inch laptop – Manila Bulletin

By Jaime G. Misalucha, Jr.

Laptop sizes have always been a part of the deciding factor when choosing the best laptop to use. This is due to the impression that the bigger the screen of the laptop the heavier it will get. But good news to those dreaming of a lightweight 16inch laptop! Huawei made it into a reality with the new Huawei Matebook D 16 that only weighs 1.7kg.

Huawei took advantage of its spacious real estate to provide a top of the line laptop screen. With a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 90% screen-to-body ratio, the screen will keep you in awe and will inspire you to work even more. And with TÜV Reinhard Low Blue Light (hardware solution) and DC dimming, the Matebook D 16 protects your eyes and alleviates eye fatigue. So heavy users can safely spend long hours at work. The TÜV Reinhard Low Blue Light (hardware solution) also accurately reproduces colors safely so you can appreciate what’s on screen without the worry of eye strain.

What’s impressive with the Matebook D16 is that despite it having a 16-inch screen it is lightweight giving users the flexibility to bring it almost anywhere. It is also thin, measuring only 18.4mm, making it compact and not bulky to carry. Its body actually reminds me of smaller laptops, like the 13-inch laptops, that are thin and not a burden to carry anywhere. This redefined the impression of many people with 16-inch laptops as it proves that despite its size, it can still be easy to carry around yet has the computing power expected from it.

Leading the computing power of the Matebook D16 is a 12th Generation Intel Core i7 processor with Iris X Graphics. This makes handling multiple tasks easy for the Matebook D16 including applications such as Photoshop and Adobe Premier. Surprisingly the Matebook D16 processes commands fast and smoothly which saves a lot of time.

In terms of WI-FI connectivity, the Matebook D16’s Metaline antenna increases signal conversion that allows users to have a more stable and fast internet connection. Meaning, downloading large files are fast and watching live streams and video conferencing are lag free. Generally, it makes your entire internet experience smooth with very few downtimes.

As for its keyboards, it responds softly to your touch with that satisfying gentle click as if encouraging you to push forward with whatever you’re working on. The keyboard is also backlit that automatically turns off when it is on idle for a period of time. Then it turns on again as soon as you start typing.

Since the Matebook D16 is wide enough, it has adequate space for a numeric keypad on the right side of the keyboard. This provides added efficiency while working with numbers. Apart from this, there are individual special keys located on top of the numeric keyboard that are useful in everyday work. This gives you access to the calculator, something that we all need most especially those BA graduates such as myself, the AI search that gives us easy access to information online, a Home button that is non-existent to most laptops but proved to be something that we all need, and the camera switch button for added security. I honestly appreciate these special buttons and I salute Huawei for coming up with it because it is not everyday we get to see these special buttons on a laptop, most especially the home button that gives us quick access to minimize our running apps and see our home screen

For video conferencing, the Matebook D16 packs an AI camera with upto 1080p resolution. It can cover upto 88 degrees wide-angle that is useful when you are sharing your webcam with other people on site. Interestingly, it also has built-in virtual backgrounds you can choose from and a FollowCam option that makes sure you’re always at the center of the camera frame. There is also an Eye Contact feature that enables more natural eye contact.

Partnering with the AI Camera is an AI noise reduction feature to make sure that your voice will be heard on top of the noise around you during a call. This happens through the help of a quad-mic setup that is located along the edges of the laptop that filters out your voice and the noise around you through a special AI algorithm to make your voice loud and clear.

Just like any Huawei laptop models nowadays, the Huawei matebook D16 can easily connect within the Huawei Ecosystem. You can connect your Huawei smartphone or tablet to the Matebook D16 to be able to access apps, files and more. If a 16-inch screen is not enough for you, you can also turn your Huawei phone or tablet as a secondary screen. You can also turn your Huawei tablet as a drawing plate to give you more ease in creating your digital artworks.

And finally, powering up the Huawei Matebook D16 is a 65W USB Type C AC power adapter that juice up the Matebook D16 in less than an hour. What makes this power adapter standout is the fact that you can mistake it as a phone charger. The power adapter is actually smaller than a credit card and also 30% smaller than previous generation 65W chargers. It can also juice up Huawei smartphones that support Huawei Supercharge.

Using the Huawei Matebook D16 for about two weeks, it made computing faster and smoother without any downtime to wait for something to be processed or saved. Even during graphics heavy work of editing photos and videos, the Huawei Matebook D16 performed very smoothly as if it was just processing a word file. The Huawei Matebook D16 is the perfect companion for those working on the go and those digital artists.
