As part of their six-game homestand, the Detroit Tigers get set to finish up their three-game series with the Seattle Mariners on Thursday.

The Tigers had the Mariners on the ropes in their second game of the series on Wednesday night. Despite Seattle jumping in front in the first inning with a two-run home run from Julio Rodriguez, Detroit came back with two of their own in the second inning to tie the game. They would take the lead in the sixth with an RBI single from Jeimer Candelario. However, another home run given up by the Tigers in the seventh, and an insurance run in the ninth helped the Mariners clinch the series with a 5-3 win.
Candelario ended up going 2-4 in the game with two RBIs, while Eric Haase scored twice, also picking up two hits.
Eugenio Suarez and Abraham Toro each had two hits in the win for Seattle, both driving in a couple of runs each. Marco Gonzales earned his 10th win of the season, allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings of work.
The Tigers, who have lost back-to-back games for the first time in two weeks, remain 2.5 games behind the Kansas City Royals for last in the American League Central, and ended the month of August with a 9-18 record.
Seattle improved their lead in the AL Wild Card picture, still a half-game back of the Tampa Bay Rays, but are now 1.5 games up on the Toronto Blue Jays. The Mariners ended up going 17-10 last month.
