The Tigers short win streak ended on Tuesday night in a low-scoring affair. San Francisco jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the opening inning, and the score remained that way for much of the game. That was, until Evan Longoria hit a two-run home run in the sixth to extend the Giants’ lead. Detroit was able to get on the board the following innings when Eric Haase drove in Javier Baez, but that was all the Tigers could muster up, as they ended up losing by a score of 3-1.
Baez and Riley Greene each had two hits in the game for the Tigers, while Drew Hutchinson (1-7) had a solid start on the hill, giving up just one run on four hits, striking out three in five innings.
The star of the night was San Francisco’s Carlos Rodon. The Giants ace struck out 10, surrendering one run in seven innings, picking up his 12th of the campaign. Joc Pederson and Longoria each had two hits in the win as well.
Despite the win, the Giants still sit six games back of a Wild Card spot, trailing National League West rival San Diego, as the two teams sit 2-3 in the division. The Tigers have been able to close the gap with the Kansas City Royals for last in the American League Central, as Detroit is 2.5 games back of KC.
