After another day off, the Detroit Tigers are back on the road, kicking off a quick trip to Texas for a three-game series with the Texas Rangers, starting on Friday.

The Tigers have been playing some good baseball as of late. After beating fellow American League West foe Los Angeles twice in a three-game series, Detroit tried to play a spoiling role against the San Francisco Giants earlier this week, splitting a short two-game stint at home. They have now won three out of four games, which is a breath of fresh compared to how things have gone this month (and this season for that matter), as the Tigers are 7-15 in the month of August. They are still last in the AL Central, trailing the Kansas City Royals by 2.5 games. They also have one of the worst road records in baseball, winning just 19 of their 61 games away from Comerica Park.
Texas also finds themselves on a little bit of a warm streak coming into the series. They just finished up a six-game road trip that saw them win three of four against the Minnesota Twins, before splitting a two-game set with the Colorado Rockies. The Rangers have won five of their last seven games, and are 11-12 in the month of August. However, they too are a little bit out of the playoff race, as they are 10.5 games back of division rival Seattle for the last Wild Card spot in the AL.
This will be the second series this season between the two franchises, with the squads splitting a four-game set in Detroit back in June. So far, the Tigers are 6-12 against AL West teams, while the Rangers are 16-11 against opponents from the Central.
