The Tigers offense had a little bit of a better game in the Saturday evening clash with Chicago, but their pitching was not able to hold off the White Sox. Detroit jumped up to a 3-1 lead by the second inning, and led 4-3 after three. Yet, the Tigers’ bullpen, which had been stellar over the last few games, gave up two runs late, including an eighth-inning home run to AJ Pollock, as Chicago sent the Tigers to their sixth-consecutive loss with a 6-4 win.
Detroit had 10 hits in the game, but were unable to take advantage of more opportunities, going 2-7 with runners in scoring position. Riley Greene had a bases-loaded double that drove in three, while Akil Baddoo and Harold Castro each had two hits in the loss, which was handed to Joe Jimenez, giving him two defeats this season.
Pollock ended the game with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored for Chicago. Andrew Vaughn went 3-4 with an RBI, while Leury Garcia also scored twice for the White Sox. Lucas Giolito was able to pick up his ninth win of the season, striking out seven in seven innings of work.
The Tigers remain at the bottom of the American League Central, 4.5 games behind the Kansas City Royals. With a loss to the Cleveland Guardians, Chicago is just 2.5 back of the division-leaders, while they are two of the Tampa Bay Rays for the league’s last Wild Card spot.
