How Steph Curry’s pitch to lure Aaron Judge to Giants, not Yankees, unfolded

SAN FRANCISCO – When chasing an ultrabright diamond, as the San Francisco Giants are with MLB free-agent slugger Aaron Judge, logic dictates using every available resource.

Even if that resource is unaffiliated with the Giants.

Which is why Warriors superstar Stephen Curry was called into service as part of the recruiting committee in the Giants’ quest to lure Judge away from the Yankees and back to his Northern California roots.

“I can neither confirm nor deny,” Curry told NBC Sports Bay Area late Wednesday night at Chase Center.

Curry then broke into full-throated laughter.

Curry disclosed that there was an attempt to arrange a meeting on Tuesday with Judge during his two-day stay in San Francisco. When that didn’t happen – the Warriors’ flight from New Orleans arrived a bit too late – they settled for exchanging text messages.

“I met him before this,” Curry said of Judge. “We’ve talked before. So . . let’s put it this way: I am doing my part as a loyal Red Sox fan.”

Any fan of the Boston Red Sox would be delighted to see Judge, the reigning American League MVP, leave their arch-rival in New York.

Curry seemed truly hopeful that the Giants’ recruiting pitch is successful – even if it means sharing the big stage with a guy who swings a mean baseball bat.

The question is whether the Giants, whose delegation hosted dinner with Judge on Monday night, can follow their stated desire with a megadeal that will persuade Judge, a native of the Central Valley town on Linden, to spurn the Yankees.
